The economy being tied down and the no fast travel things sounds like they would be one of those "love it or hate it" kind of design choices. Housing has also been a hot feature for new MMOs and was implemented into both WoW (garrisons) and GW2 (guild halls) recently. Guild Wars 2 has a similar dynamic combat system and a crafting discovery system that is identical to what he described (put stuff in, see if it makes anything). Most of the features he talked about are present in all top MMOs these days.
But ultimately using them on the npc enemies doesn't feel great because they're all just dumb drones who run at you. One positive thing that stood out to me is that the spells and abilities that you have at your disposal feel really good to use, so maybe pvp could be cool. You also don't get any real sense of progression because of how lackluster the loot from enemies is. Most of it doesn't alter your appearance at all, aside from weapons. Only the summoned bosses have special attacks where you actually have to think a bit about dodging.Įdit: Also the loot in this game is absolutely terrible. All the enemies are extremely basic and don't really employ special moves or anything. There's essentially just a couple biomes.

There's very little variety in the terrain so it's not like the game is full of extremely interesting looking areas. The world, while large, is mostly empty with nothing going on and I found myself resorting to just alt tabbing out of the game while my character auto ran to the next checkpoint. For example he talks about the lack of fast travel and the fact the world is huge makes your journeying feel 'epic', but in my experience with the beta that's absolutely not true. All the things this guy hypes up are not necessarily positive.
